Bruce H. Lehr is the founding partner of Lehr Levi & Mendez, P.A., a Miami, Florida criminal defense firm, and has more than 30 years of experience as a criminal defense attorney. From the State Attorney's Office to the Defense Table. From 1979 until 1983, Lehr worked with Janet Reno at the Office of the State Attorney, 11th Judicial District, in Miami, Florida, where he served as Chief Prosecutor for the Dade County Courts and Senior Trial Attorney in the Narcotics Division. From 1982 to 1983, he was appointed a member of the Florida Governor's Task Force in Alcohol and Highway Safety. In 1983, he entered private practice as a criminal defense attorney. Today, after more than 360 jury trials in both state and federal courts, he continues to represent clients on both sides of the gavel.
A Record in the Courtroom. Best known for his trial skills, Lehr has tried more than 300 jury trials. His notable matters include defending a client accused of negotiating the purchase of a submarine to move 40 tons of cocaine, representing Scott Rothstein's law partner in connection with the $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme, and defending a director indicted in a $170 million bank fraud, one of the largest factoring frauds in Florida history at the time. He has also represented former mayors of South Miami and West Miami, and clients in Medicare fraud, mortgage fraud, and DUI manslaughter cases.
Recognition and Credentials. Lehr holds the AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest rating for both ethics and legal ability. Since 2012 he has been selected by his peers for inclusion in Super Lawyers, and he was named to Florida Trend's Florida Legal Elite in 2009 and 2010. He has received a 10 out of 10 superb rating on Avvo and has served as a panelist for the Miami-Dade County Bar Association on topics including prosecutorial misconduct.
Lehr is a member of the Florida and New York State Bars, the Miami-Dade County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers. He earned his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1980 and his B.A. from the University of Miami in 1976, where he served as Editor in Chief of the university newspaper, The Hurricane. He speaks French and Hebrew.
