Billionaire investor Peter Thiel is putting his Facebook proceeds back to work with the opening of a new venture capital firm, Mithril Capital Management, with a $402 million fund.
The San Francisco-based firm will fit somewhere between Thiel’s other investment firms; amongst them Founders Fund, which focuses on earlier stage investments, and Clarium Capital, a management and hedge fund company.
Thiel, who is also a co-founder of PayPal and data analytics firm Palantir, is known for embracing markets like space exploration and biotechnology. Like Founders Fund, Mithril plans to pursue start-ups that are tackling big problems.
