Donald Trump will be heading to Tampa next week to play a “surprise” role in the Republican National Convention. The real estate mogul/reality TV host/political rabble-rouser will play an unspecified role on August 27, the first day of the convention titled “We Can Do Better.” Trump is an outspoken critic of President Obama’s–he was among the most vocal “birthers” demanding Obama release his long-form birth certificate–and should be an ideal fit on a day devoted to savaging the incumbent’s first term.
“We are going after Obama,” said convention spokesman Kyle Downey. “If he doesn’t want to talk about his failed record, we will. The American people expect and deserve better.” Trump might bring his role at the big show into clearer focus over the next few days. The Twitter-happy businessman dropped the first hints of his appearance on the social media site last week.
