Beyonce was named Best Female R&B Artist at the BET Awards in Los Angeles last night, but lost Best Video to her husband Jay-Z. Jay and Kanye West took the video award for “Otis,” and also nabbed Best Group for their blockbuster collaboration “Watch the Throne.” But the star of the show was the late Whitney Houston, who was found dead in her bathtub at the Beverly Hilton in February. Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, Brandy, Monica and Houston’s mother Cissy Houston led an all-star tribute to the fallen star that included her hits “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and the Simon & Garfunkle classic “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
The troubled Chris Brown cemented his unlikely comeback with a win for Best Male R&B artist, while Drake, the Canadian rapper who recently brawled with Brown and his entourage over mutual ex-girlfriend Rihanna at SoHo club W.i.P., took Best Male Hip-Hop Artist.
