Many still consider Vogue editor and newly minted political force Anna Wintour fashion’s biggest power player and tastemaker. But in its ranking of the world’s most powerful women released today, Forbes magazine listed her at #51, below designer Diane von Furstenberg (#33) and Burberry C.E.O. Angela Ahrendts (#45). Apparently, “it’s the money-makers, not the taste-makers, who truly hold the power,” commented HuffPo’s Ellie Krupnick.
The good news for Wintour is that her Forbes ranking rose 18 spots from last year while von Furstenberg stalled. German Chanellor Angela Merkel topped the list, inching out runner-up Hillary Clinton. Wintour did edge out fellow style icons Miuccia Prada (#67) and Gisele Bundchen (#83).
