In time with the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne, the Victoria and Albert Museum presents “Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton.” Opening Feb. 8, the exhibition features photographs of Her Majesty as a princess, monarch and mother.

Sir Cecil Beaton photographed the British royal family on many occasions and helped shape the family’s public image. He first photographed Queen Elizabeth II in 1942 when she was still a young princess. He then photographed her on many other significant occasions, including her Coronation Day in 1953. Later, he also photographed her as a mother to commemorate the births of Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

In 1968, Beaton photographed Her Majesty for his exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. One of the most iconic portraits from the exhibition was of the Queen wearing the Admiral’s Black Cloak against a blue backdrop. It was the last time Beaton would photograph Queen Elizabeth II.

Beaton’s latest exhibition will be on display t the Victoria and Albert Museum until April 22 and offers the chance to be a part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebration.
