Haute 100 Update: Angelina Jolie Considers New Position with U.N. Refugee Agency

Actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie announced Tuesday, Oct. 4 that she is looking into the possibility of accepting a position to include more responsibilities with the U.N. refugee agency for which she currently serves as a goodwill ambassador.
Jolie has been well recognized for her globetrotting as a U.N. goodwill ambassador over the past 10 years. She also has served informally as a special envoy for U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, who told the agency’s executive committee Tuesday that Jolie could serve as his special envoy to “mobilize strong international support” during particularly dire situations.
Nothing yet has been finalized as Jolie is currently in the process of studying her options with the agency and working out the details for her deal with refugee crises.
“We are looking at a few countries in the world,” she explained. “We’re hoping to discuss it in the next few weeks but we want to research it properly and do it well.”
Other possibilities for Jolie include a new role as special envoy on the refugee crisis affecting Afghans fleeing Pakistan and Iran, which currently host approximately 2.7 million Afgan refugees, who Jolie described as “the most vulnerable people in the world, and also the most resilient people in the world.”
She added, “Refugees are survivors, they are mothers and daughters and fathers and sons, they are all extraordinary people who have a remarkable story that tells of strength in the face of great loss. They need our help more than ever.”
