Dean Hutchinson has been a premier local designer since the early 2000s and had his own minimalistic, architectually beautiful line called Mii that was housed in a shop on the outskirts of Union Square.  It would only make sense that he and Carrots, a well curated boutique in Jackson Square, would collaborate to launch an exclusive line called A’bout.

Carrots is one of the best boutiques in San Francisco that carries edgy but beautifully-made designers like Rick Owens, Maison Martin Margiela, Acne, Alexander Wang and VPL to name a few.   A’bout is a line designed by Dean Hutchinson and Yunchieh Chang, a local Academy of Art graduate.  A’bout is available exclusively for Carrots and it is the eptimote of a stylistic vision.  It is clothing with sculptural lines, luxurious fabrics with perfect tailoring that can with stand the test of time.  The beauty is in the draping and details of each item.  Sumptuous leathers, mixed with silk jersey and finely milled fabrics make for a seasonless collection.

Haute Living SF briefly intereviewed Co-owner Melissa Grimm about the collaboration:

HL:  What brought about the collab between Dean Hutchinson, Yunchieh Chang and Carrots?
MG: We had been familiar with Dean Hutchinson and his work for many years.  We had been interested in doing a private label for the store, when the opportunity arose to discuss the idea with Dean and Yunchieh they were really excited.  It took awhile to get things going, but so far its been hugely successful for us.

HL:  What is your favorite piece from the line?
MG:  My favorite piece is the trench coat.  I have one, I wear it all the time!  It’s my go to piece when the weather is crummy and I want to be warm.  We are doing it in cashmere for fall, the camel color is beautiful!

HG:  What are 2-3 items you feel are MUST haves this fall?
MG:  The pencil skirt!  It goes with everything and is a wardrobe staple.  Ours has a really nice seam detail down the front.  Dean made a leather version for me to wear to the event and its the best leather skirt I’ve seen this season.  They also did a knit top as part of the collaboration, it has long sleeves and is really chic with a pair of jeans or leather pants!
