Ksenya Roz’s First Solo Exhibit is a Success
Artist Ksenya Roz is turning heads with the success of her first solo exhibit Disappear Here; The Art and Times of Ksenya Roz, curated by Yana Tara which opened July 7th in the Twelve 21 Event Space in New York City. Roz used every avenue possible such as photography, digital manipulation, street art and found objects to express her opinion on today’s numb and alienated society as one that projects hyperconsumeristic ideals upon the masses.
For the exhibit Roz drew inspiration from her own life including her soviet roots, past relationships, drug abuse and sexual and suicidal fantasies. One of the themes Roz exhibited focused around the satire of New York City nightlife presenting the image of assorted doormen like Wass Stevens of Avenue, Alex Julian of PH-D in the Dream hotel and brothers Binn and Genic Jakupi who own the Jamaican restaurant Ms. Lily’s. Another aspect that caught the attention and admiration of viewers was a background video depicting the artist drowning in a bathtub filled to the brim with high end material belongings, a martini glass of pills in hand.
To the opening Roz donned a yellow Mathew Williamson dress accompanied by Ugo Cacciatori jewelry. Guests in attendance included Tom Sachs, Andrew Levitas, Aaron Voros, Sean Avery, Richie Akiva, Nina Senicar, Dimitri Falk, Michael Satsky and one of the doormen from Roz’s collection Alex Julian who felt honored to see himself depicted by the artist.
