Earth Day is April 22 and there are a myriad of Earth Day celebrations and activities next Friday giving South Florida residents the chance to show their awareness and support to going green. This year’s Earth Day theme is A Billion Acts of Green so to get an early start and make sure to reach that billion, head to downtown Miami to kick things off.

Tonight, Area 31, located inside the EPIC Hotel, begins its Earth Care Menu that will run through Earth Day.  The menu features organic and local ingredients and includes an optional organic wine pairing. Area 31’s Executive Chef E. Michael Reidt will also be showing his dedication to Earth Day and his local community by planting at the community gardens in Overtown for Roots in the City and by starting a composting program at the restaurant also to benefit the gardens. Roots in the City is a great program located just steps from Area 31 in the shadow of downtown Miami’s skyline and it is dedicated to “community development, jobs training, inner-city beautification, healthy eating initiatives, and community research” in Overtown.

On Monday, April 18 the EPIC continues its early Earth Day kickoffs with an Earth Week yoga class at Exhale Spa. A 10 dollar donation is suggested in lieu of the normal class fee and all funds raised go to the Surfrider Foundation.  The Surfrider Foundation is a non profit environmental organization dedicated to our oceans and beaches.  The Vinyasa Flow yoga class will be held at 6:15 on the EPIC lawn.
