Haute Event: Two Local Artists Launch Exhibit in Berkeley This Weekend

"Egg Odyssey" by Nancy Mintz ; Traywick Contemporary

When Sunday rolls around, it’s always a goal of mine to do something different, rain or shine.  This doesn’t mean I try my hand at tattooing or motocross, though I wouldn’t rule those out. In a smaller version of “spin the globe,” I pick a local place I don’t know well and head out to see what I can uncover and discover. That’s part of the fun of living in the diverse San Francisco Bay Area–the options are endless.

Berkeley is one such place where, no matter how many times you go, there is always something new to see. Whether you head to your favorite coffee place for people watching, or gorge yourself in Gourmet Gulch, or browse the diverse galleries that call this East Bay University town home, there is something to entice every taste and style. And this Sunday, it’s Traywick Contemporary and two local artists that have me venturing across the Bay Bridge.

Dharma Strasser MacColl and Nancy Mintz kick of their simultaneous exhibitions at Traywick Contemporary at an Artists’ Reception Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 3 to 5 p.m.  Stop in and meet them and get a sneak peak at their remarkable work. The exhibit runs until May 7, 2011

"Lattice" by Dharma Strasser MacColl; Traywick Contemporary

This is Mintz’s first time at Traywick Comtemporary. Entitled “Mother May I,” the exhibit highlights exceptional and thought provoking sculptures in wood, clay and metal.

Strasser MacColl’s  “Emanante” features the artist’s recent work on paper. MacColl is known for her delicate and intricate combinations of porcelain, silk thread, and watercolor on paper that create both peaceful and powerful works of art.

Spin your local globe this weekend and head to Berkeley to sip some wine  and introduce yourself to these two talented local artists.

If you can’t make it to the reception, the gallery itself is a work of art any time of year and a Bay Area favorite, transformed from a Masonic Temple into a multi-level, open and airy exhibition space, as well as a family home where owner Katrina Traywick lives with her husband and two children.
