Haute Cardio

Once in a blue moon, I have to give myself a pep talk before I go to the gym. It goes something like this, “Get up, you lazy piece of  $%*#.” Quite honestly, it has nothing to do with loss in motivation and everything to do with being stuck inside. I am just not in the mood to suck in the recycled air and am over squinting from the bad lighting.

However, my cardio machine of choice at this given moment is the elliptical, because of its low impact workout and my injured back, unfortunately that thing is staying parked inside. Or, at least I thought so . . . Low and behold last week my prayers were answered and I got to try out an ElliptiGo. Say what? Picture this, a bike meets an elliptical and it is love at first sight. They mate and an elliptical bicycle babies are born called ElliptiGO .

The ElliptiGo was co-created when Bryan Pate, a former Ironman triathlete, could no longer run as part of his fitness regime, teamed up with Brent Teal, a mechanical engineer to create this ingenious new workout. What makes this so brilliant is that you can get a fantastic cardiovascular workout without damaging your body all while enjoying the outdoors. I was lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful day starting off in Hermosa Beach, thanks to Hermosa Beach Cyclery, and get a fantastic workout in with a little sun and sand as my scenery. This is truly the most enjoyable low-impact cardiovascular experience I’ve ever tried.
