Haute Event: The Act Opens with a Star-Studded Red Carpet

The Act, the new performance-based nightclub theater by New York nightlife impresario Simon Hammerstein, officially opened its doors Saturday night with a star-studded grand opening celebration.

More than 1,000 guests, including Sir Elton John, who flew in 120 of his closest friends to celebrate the grand finale of husband David Furnish’s 50th birthday weekend, got caught in the Act. Other notable guests included Susan Sarandon sporting a purple wig, actress Malin Akerman, Mad Men bombshell Christina Hendricks and her beau Geoffrey Arend, fellow Mad Men Michael Gladis, and Glee star Mark Salling.

The new nightclub is located on the third level inside the Shoppes at the Palazzo. The Act features over-the-top theatrical performances, nightly rituals and audience involvement in the shows. The 9,000-square-foot, multi-level space features opera house-meets-speakeasy aesthetic enveloped in various chambers, 12 private balcony boxes, an exclusive backstage VIP area and five bars.
