A Luxury Weekend Getaway at Bedford Post

Sometimes in between a long work-week and a long vacation, you need mini breaks close to home to help you relax. Up in Bedford, NY, you’ll find a quiet getaway that still has some celebrity appeal.

Bedford Post, a fourteen-acre retreat located just under one hour north of New York City in the hamlet of Bedford, is home to an eight-room luxury inn, two distinct restaurants and a yoga studio. Understated elegance and warm, gracious hospitality are Bedford Post hallmarks that make it the perfect getaway to one of New York’s most charming areas. As a result of the property’s commitment to providing guests with unparalleled experience, Bedford Post was inducted into the prestigious Relais & Chateaux organization in December 2010. Plus, the property is owned by Richard Gere, along with Carey Lowell and Russell Hernandez, who restored the property in 2007 so that it today retains echoes of the past while offering the thoughtful comforts of the present. If Richard thinks its a good enough time to spend a weekend, then so do I.

As for dining, you won’t be disappointed at The Farmhouse. Bedford Post unveiled a new menu at the acclaimed Farmhouse restaurant in May 2012, in addition to expanded indoor and outdoor seating for guests to enjoy an aperitif or after dinner cocktail. A newly refurbished bar with additional seating offers a cozy alternative for experiencing the full menu, while black-and-white, silent movies are available for guests to view. A communal table on the hill and an outdoor children’s play area for cricket are also in development. In June 2012, The Farmhouse at Bedford Post won the coveted ‘Best of Westchester’ Award for Best Appetizer – Plums with Mozzarella and Pistachio—and its seasonal menus are what keep visitors stopping back for a new take on local flavors.

The Farmhouse wine cellar houses more than 1,500 bottles and selections are chosen specifically to complement the restaurant’s ever-changing seasonal menu. With this approach guests may enjoy more exclusive bottles at a more affordable price point, without sacrificing quality. The Farmhouse is open for dinner Wednesday thru Saturday from 5:30pm to 10:00pm and Sunday from 5:30pm to 9:00pm. A five-course tasting menu is available for $75 Wednesday-Sunday. Reservations are suggested.

Come for dinner, or stay the night— the Bedford Post Inn offers travelers eight luxury suites located on the second and third floors of the property’s former farmhouse. Decorated in a palette of soothing neutral tones by designers Carey Lowell and Tiffany Vassilakis, there are spaces throughout the Inn that are as inviting and tasteful as they are functional. The Inn’s rooms are intimate and welcoming – the rooms on the upper level are framed by hand-hewn reclaimed wood beams original to the property and reminiscent of a romantic country cottage and the white oak wood floors are burnished to a warm glow.

If you need more of a reason to attend, the property hosts special dinners celebrating holidays, and the delicious food that goes along with them. Going on now is the Halloween Menu, three courses priced at $45, in The Barn complete with spooky (yes, very edible) menu items and a dessert counter with mini jack-o-lanterns filled with mousse, candied apples, colored cupcakes, and ghost and cat shaped cookies.
