The Kings (and Queens) of Comedy Honor George Shapiro

Though most lifetime achievement ceremonies are stiff and serious, an event honoring TV producer George Shapiro on Saturday night was a laughing matter.

Over 500 industry insiders headed to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel to attend “A Night of Comedy”. Russell Brand acted as host, while Sarah Silverman and Garry Shandling performed stand-up routines. Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno were also on hand to surprise their funny long-time friend.

Shapiro was presented with the ‘Lifetime of Bliss Award’ from the David Lynch Foundation to commend his contribution to film, and was also celebrated in video messages from famous fans like  Bob Saget, Regis Philbin, Kelly Ripa and Chris Rock.

Guests including Michael Cera, heiress Daphne Guinness, Thomas Jane, Whitney Cummings, Kevin Nealon, B.J. Novak, Carl Reiner and Beth Behrs enjoyed the do-it-yourself food stations like  Create-Your-Own Sliders, Custom Coffee, fresh-made Doughnut & Churros, as well as George’s favorite tipple, Don Julio.

The classic ballroom was transformed by event designer, YourBASH! into a comic playground with caricature-filled wall art. Instead of flowers, centerpieces included ice cream cake pops, mini sluggers, L.A. Dodgers mini-helmets, a bottle of Don Julio tequila, margarita glasses filled with salt-water taffy, a Porsche beer glass and red converse tennis shoes.

All proceeds benefited the David Lynch Foundation.
