The luxury real estate market is often surprising and the sale of this penthouse located in the top floor of the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco is no exception — it just sold for $28 million, after being listed in 2008 for $70 million.

Previously listed for $70 million in 2008, the penthouse apartment on top of the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco just sold for “bargain” price of $28 million. Taking up the top two floors of the luxury hotel, the apartment features 20,000 square feet of living space, breathtaking views of the city’s skyline and bay area, six bedrooms, twelve bathrooms, a large living area, a library, a home theater, a patio, foyer, master suite with easy access to a sauna, steam room and gym and balconies measuring in over 3,000 square feet.

The space was originally three different apartments, but after expensive and expansive renovations, the area was combined into one enormous apartment. The new owner will be enjoying 22-foot high ceilings, four fireplaces and a two-story waterfall in the foyer.

The St. Regis San Francisco is located in the Williams Building, an early 20th century historical structure that also houses signature restaurant Ame and an exclusive 9,000-square foot Remede Spa. It is directly adjacent to the highly acclaimed San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and across the street from the Yerba Buena Gardens.

The Residences at the St. Regis are located from the 22nd to 40th floors of the hotel. There are 101 private residences, which are currently sold out.

The St. Regis San Francisco is located at 125 3rd Street, San Francisco, California.
