Haute 100 Update: Mark Wahlberg to Open ‘Wahlburgers’ Burger Restaurant with his Brothers

Hollywood superceleb Mark Wahlberg is about to add another role as restaurateur to his extensive portfolio, which includes titles like co-executive producer of HBO’s Entourage and Boardwalk Empire and one of the world’s favorite leading actors. He is planning on venturing into the revived burger genre with a new restaurant, opening with brothers Donnie and Paul Wahlberg.

And talk about cute names! The new eatery is currently slated to take the name “Wahlburgers”, which they had to finagle out of its previous trademark by a burger chain in New York run by Tom Wahl. Ed St. Croix, Mark’s business partner, said that they were able to obtain the naming rights in a way that “worked out well for both sides.”

The brothers already have an Italian restaurant under their belt, with an additional pizza joint in the works. Of their burger ambitions, St. Croix said, “It just works, it’s a good sounding brand we could put out the product with, a great name people could relate to.” Wahlburgers will seat 80 people inside, 40 in an outdoor patio area, and have Paul – the eldest brother involved and seasoned chef – leading the kitchen.

Wahlburgers is set to open soon at the Hingham Shipyard, MA, across from the trio’s Italian restaurant, Alma Nove, which was named in honor of the Wahlbergs’ mother and her nine kids.
