Rick Caruso

Category: Originators

Industry: Real Estate Development

Company: Caruso Affiliated

What Made Him Haute: As L.A. Business Journal’s “Developer of the Year,” and a past president of the Police Commission, Rick Caruso is one the most influential members of the Los Angeles community. The developer of the Grove, the Americana at Brand, and other retail-entertainment projects has transformed neighborhoods and changed the shopping landscape.

What Makes Him Haute Now: Caruso Affiliated is now investing in the airport retail business, giving travelers a more welcoming shopping experience. The company has also taken on a joint venture with investment firm TPG Capital, with plans to invest up to $750 million worth of property on the West Coast. Caruso has his eye on the Glendale Galleria, a shopping center that rivals his Americana at Brand development. It’s also been noted in various interviews that the developer has touched upon the idea of running for mayor in 2013, when Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s term is up. We will certainly keep our fingers crossed for discount shopping bribes!
