Ritz-Carlton plans to open its third property in Japan, this time in the ancient city of Kyoto. This project, which includes the rebuilding of now closed Hotel Fujita Kyoto, is expected to start early next year and be completed by 2014. The French government has announced that the Park Hyatt Paris Vendome has been awarded a five-star classification of the highest honor. It has been crowned one of eight official palace hotels in France. A “palace hotel” is a nickname that many Paris hotels have used over the years as a self-awarded title, making it unofficial. Last year, the government of France decided to make this category official, while laying out specific criteria for five-star hotels to compete for the rating of Distinction palace.   [...read more]

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Denihan Hospitality Group will be bringing its luxury boutique James brand to Miami Beach’s historic Royal Palm Hotel. The hotel company, owned by New York’s Denihan family, has agreed to brand and manage the 109-room hotel for the property’s new owner KSL Capital Partners LLC. To be completed next year, the 72-year-old hotel’s renovation is planned to cost $42.6 million.  [...read more]
