The building of the new West Hollywood Library and community center, part of The West Hollywood Park Master Plan in West Hollywood, broke ground in early 2009. Two years later, phase 1 of the complex is almost complete (ahead of time) and set to debut this Fall with the Community Dedication and Grand Opening set for Saturday, October 1. What a tasteless crime! It has been reported that an original piece of Picasso’s Bresnu Collection has been stolen from the San Francisco Weinstein Gallery this past Tuesday morning. The 1962 drawing, “Tête de femme,” was believed to be worth about $200,000; gallery owner Rowland Weinstein gold hold of it in May at a New York auction for approximately $125,000, according to the San Francisco Examiner.  [...read more]

Renowned British artist Damien Hirst has graced the art world with his prized work in sculpture, painting, drawing, and printmaking. Now the acclaimed visionary is set to add one more medium to his accomplished portfolio with a collection of skateboard decks. The Masterpiece 2011 London Fair is ending today with some of the world’s most exquisite collectable pieces on show… and selling for immense sums. As of yet, the fair’s highest-fetching seller is John Carlton-Smith, who sold an incredible 13-inch high decorative mantel clock set in silver by Robert Ward London for over £200,000 ($322,410). According to Luxury Launches, the incredible piece features a “very fine gilt mount including the busts of George III and Queen Charlotte inlaid with jewels and standing on four silver elephants.”  [...read more]

With all of the new wealth blossoming across Asia, it is hardly surprising that China has surpassed the United States as the biggest auction market for art and collectables after auction sales more than doubled in only one year. According to the French Auction Market Authority, sales in China – including Hong Kong – leapt 137% in 2010 to a whopping $10.8 billion.  [...read more]
