The most powerful couple in music are about to reenter the political sphere. Jay-Z and Beyonce will host a $40,000-per-plate fundraising dinner for President Barack Obama on September 18 at Jay’s 40/40 nightclub. It will be the last such dinner for Obama before the November 6 election and the invite list will be capped at 100 names. The husband and wife are chummy with Barack and Michelle: Beyonce sang Etta James’ “At Last” for them at one of several inaugural balls back in 2008. (The late James considered her not being invited a presidential diss.)
Anna Wintour, Harvey Weinstein and Sarah Jessica Parker all threw earlier money suppers for the incumbent. On the subject of giving a lot for and having a lot on one’s plate, Jay will play eight concerts at the Barclays Center starting at the end of the month. Oh, and he and his wife wife are rumored to be working on a sibling for their nine-month-old daughter Blue Ivy.
