Alex Rodriguez contributed to a veritable home run derby in the Yankees home game against the Atlanta Braves last night. The teams hit a combined nine home runs, a benchmark at the new Yankee Stadium. Unfortunately, the Yankees lost 10-5. It was A-Rod’s 640th career homer, and came amidst stifling heat and humidity that has players running for cover in the shady dugouts. Despite the home run, A-Rod continues to struggle. He’s batting a lowly.231 for the season, and grounded out to end the seventh inning just as the Bronx Bombers had come within one run of the Braves. The Yankees head to Citi Field tomorrow for their second Subways Series against the Mets this month; they swept the last series.
