When Newsom was elected Mayor of San Francisco in 2003 at the age of 36, he was the youngest man to take on that role in more than 100 years, and made headlines when he granted marriage licenses to same-sex couples after 36 days in the office. He is now the Lieutenant Governor of San Francisco. He and philanthropist wife Jennifer, a former actress, welcomed their first child in 2009.
