Pants Replace Gowns at MOCA 30th Anniversary Gala

Posted By Malika Bierstein on November 16th, 2009

Long gone are the days when wearing pants was considered a masculine trait and women were rarely seen in anything but a dress, but casual is not typically considered chic amidst tuxedos, couture, and evening gowns. Luckily, rules were made to be broken. In the world of fashion where trends are constantly changing and pretty much anything goes, or so it seems these days, it’s no wonder the black-tie affair, and its attire, has evolved as well.

Fashionistas Gwen Stefani, Liz Goldwyn and Vogue West Coast Editor Lisa Love stepped outside the proverbial box and kicked their floor-length gowns to the curb in favor of a sleek, less traditional look at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art’s 30th Anniversary Gala. Silk jodhpurs and sparkly leggings made their debut on the runway, paired with blazers and corseted tops to dress up the otherwise casual ensembles.

With all the new fancy pants emerging from designers these days, we’re sure to see more of them incorporated into red carpet looks as opposed to traditional gowns. A woman can be strong, sexy and independent, whether she’s wearing a dress or not. Who needs rules anyway?
