It is certainly not news that the worlds of art and fashion have mutually inspired and played off of each other for many years. With this in mind, it comes as little surprise that one of the masters of incorporating contemporary artists into high fashion is at it again.
Louis Vuitton has teamed up with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami for another round of a vibrant and playful collection for women. Fans of the iconic brand have been squealing with delight at the release of this news. Past collaborations between the haute fashion house and the artist who “founded” the “superflat” movement transformed the signature LV brown and gold palette into something colorful and light. Those multi-colored logo bags catapulted to the top of the LV bestseller list.
The newest project called Cosmic Blossom will present Murakami’s floral patterns that Louis Vuitton officially described as “fun, frivolous, and cute,” and then followed that up with a description of the palette as, “gorgeously, girly shades.” A bit of a departure for a brand that many consider as the pinnacle of serious fashion.
Miami residents may find a particular connection with the ad campaign for Cosmic Blossom. British model Daisy Lowe is featured on our sunny shores showing off the collection.
In an official press release, LV says, “With Cosmic Blossom, Takashi Murakami’s vision has – quite literally – found a new canvas for expression. On a bright, block color background, Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram flowers jostle playfully with smiling flower faces, a recurrent theme in Murakami’s art, which famously fuses manga graphics with traditional Japanese pictorial motifs. It’s impossible not to smile back!”
Check it out for yourself and let us know if you’re grinning from ear to ear after viewing the collection, which will be available in boutiques on a dreaded day for many Americans, April 15, 2010.
