Damian Hirst at the Tate Modern

The Tate Modern, located on the site of the former Bankside Power station, is home to some of the world’s most iconic modern art. The gallery space, designed by renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, provides an industrial backdrop to pieces from artists including Mark Rothko, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali. The work of British artist Damien Hirst is also featured prominently at the Tate, and until September a survey of his work will be on exhibit.

College students don’t always follow the advice of their elders, but it’s a good thing that Pamela Joyner wasn’t like her typical peers. While receiving her MBA at Harvard University in the mid-1980s, she and her classmates were advised by Lowery Stokes Sims, then a curator at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the first African American to hold that title, to focus on collecting art once they became successful in their careers. A decade later, Joyner began buying art—and she hasn’t stopped.

Jeddah Arts Announces Dates for Second Edition in January 2015

Held under the patronage of HRH Princess Jawaher bint Majed Al-Saud, Chairwoman of the Saudi Art Council and founder of Al-Mansouria Foundation, ‘21, 39’ Jeddah Arts aims to foster cross-cultural understanding through ongoing public, private, and institutional support of the arts. From 22-25 January it kicks off a special week of cultural activities for its second edition.
