Haute Shopping: Melrose Place’s Retail Revival

Earlier this year, Isabel Marant has opened its doors in West Hollywood, Calif., along with many other retail stores who have decided to flock to the streets of Melrose Palace. In early December, the L.A. based brand L’Agence, launched in 2008 by Margaret Maldonado and also available at Barneys New York are set to launch its first store at 8436 Melrose Place, but that’s not all, another Los Angeles brand called Equipment will be unveiled at 8459 Melrose Place in the very same month, while the legendary Italian fashion house, Bottega Veneta can look forward to opening at 8445 Melrose Place sometime next year.

According to a source, Yves Saint Laurent is getting set to debut a design studio at Melrose Avenue and Almont Drive, in the former home of gallery Regen Projects, which is not surprising because Hedi Slimane has lived in L.A. since 2007 and has dreamt about designing Saint Laurent from Los Angeles, making this new business venture a must-have. Even though YSL is focusing on developing a design studio, the brand is very aware of the retail presence on Rodeo Drive and is planning on remodeling the Beverly Hills store.
