Rooney Mara stars in Calvin Klein’s new fragrance campaign for Downtown, the scent of a classic ‘downtown’ woman who leads a genuine lifestyle that breaks all barriers. The 28-year-old actress awes in the black-and-white footage that captures a young, confident woman’s daily adventures that vary from typical subway rides to glamourous photo shoots.
Directed by The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘s David Fincher, the mysterious ad features a day or two in an adventurous girl’s life. The protagonist’s lifestyle is quite ambiguous, lending itself to either a model or actress, or even Rooney Mara. Like any ordinary girl, she starts her day with a hot coffee and listens to music in her trendy leather jacket as she boards the subway; ‘Runaway’ by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs floods the ad’s background.
Mara’s mundane tale switches to the alluring and fast-paced lifestyle of a girl behind the camera. A make-up artist coats her lashes with mascara, prepping her for a photo shoot with a Brooklyn Bridge backdrop. Scenes flash back and forth of the leading lady sleeping, standing in the rain and dancing with children. Later on, she sports a swanky little black dress for a press conference. Finally, Rooney Mara gazes at the fleeting glimpses of the Manhattan nighttime view in the backseat of a car.
