Private chef to numerous high-profile Hollywood individuals like James Cameron, Simon Fuller and Charlie Sheen, Khristianne Uy of West Hollywood has just won the first season of ABC’s ‘The Taste,’ a reality TV cooking competition show that is literally all about taste.
Out of sixteen competitors that included pro chefs and home cooks, Uy came out on top and took home the winning prize this week on the finale of ‘The Taste.’ The finale included an appearance by guest mentor and Spanish chef Jose Andres who guided finalists in creating a three course meal, according to LAist.
Uy created a meal included a first course of Peking duck confit served with chive pancake, burgundy and soy reduction, and Asian pear and radish slaw. Her second course included a seafood bouillabaisse with French sea bass, squid, king crab, neck claims and a fennel tomato broth. Her final course consisted of root beer braised ginger short ribs, bok choy, mushrooms, and kabocha squash puree. She paired all three courses with a Burgundy wine.
During the show, Uy was part of mentor Brian Malarky’s team. For winning the competition, Uy took home $100,000 cash prize and a Ford C-Maz Hybrd.
All dishes on the show were judged in a blind taste test. ‘The Taste’ featured chef Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Ludo Lefebvre and Brian Malarkey, each of whom acted as mentors to the contestants. In each episode, contestants battled through team and individual challenges.
