Mark Thompson took the reins of the New York Times today as a pedophilia scandal at his former employer, the BBC, continued to unfold across the pond. The Times named Thompson as its new C.E.O. before the BBC was embroiled in an unprecedented controversy involving the late Jimmy Savile, a popular host at the broadcaster who has been accused by hundreds of underage children of sexual misconduct spanning decades during which the BBC allegedly turned a blind eye to his widely rumored improprieties.
