Scarlett Johansson Will Star In “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof” Revival

Actress  Scarlett Johansson, fresh off a white hot blockbuster summer in which she co-starred in The Avengers, will return to Broadway this winter as Maggie the Cat in a revival of Tennessee Williams’ classic Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The curvy Johansson last graced the Great White Way in 2010 with her Tony-winning performance in A View From the Bridge. The play begins previews December 18 and opens January 17, 2013 at the Richard Rodgers Theater.

Johansson will star opposite Benjamin Walker (Broadway’s Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) as her boozed up and broken down husband Brick. Cierán Hinds will play Brick’s father Big Daddy, a Southern patriarch whose imminent death leaves his children and children-in-law scrambling for space in his will. The roles of Maggie and Brick were made famous by Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman in a 1958 film adaptation of Williams’ 1955 Pulitzer Prize winner.
