Haute Event: The Fendi Baguette Turns 15 at Maxfield

Baguette-mania is the only way to describe the scene that took place during Fendi’s 15 Years of the Baguette Bag celebration.

The haute event was hosted by Silvia Venturini Fendi and Tommy Perse on September 5th at his exclusive boutique, Maxfield.

Celebrities and socialites alike gravitated toward the eclectic Baguette installation, where bags of all different colors, sizes and textures lined Maxfield’s walls.
Despite the crowds showing off their own personal collection of the ‘it bag’, there were still more to be coveted at the auction. MOCA artists Chaz Bojorquez, Kenny Scharf, and Pae White each embellished a bag with their own unique style. White interpreted the bag as a carrier of desire and frustration and therefore adorned the entire surface with lottery tickets. The one-of-a-kind Baguettes were auctioned off during the evening’s festivities.
Actress Mena Suvari and model Lydia Hearst were actively engaged in conversation with Silvia Fendi, while Lady Victoria Hervey sipped her glass of Veuve Clicquot with a variety of other Angeleno socialites, a baguette tucked neatly under her arm. No doubt the success of the evening can be attributed to the success of the bag, which has remained a timeless classic since the 90’s ever since Sex and the City‘s Carrie Bradshaw dubbed it the ‘It bag’.
One need only look to how often the Baguette shows up under the arm of A-listers and urbanites alike to know that this accessory is here to stay. Don’t be surprised if LA is toasting the success of this fashion mainstay for years to come.
