Eclectic Elegance: Saks Fifth Avenue Dubai’s Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Show

Opulent fabrics in rich velvet and leather with dark crimson hues dominated the runway last week as Saks Fifth Avenue presented their Fall/Winter 2012 collections at the Godolphin Ballroom of the renowned Emirates Towers. Over 700 VIPs were present to watch the show showcasing the season’s hottest trends.

Bringing an expertly edited collection from the most coveted menswear and womenswear designers, the show featured 7 key trends in an overall mood of eclectic elegance: Brocade Brigade, Mixed Media, Ladylike, Geek Chic, Masculine/Feminine, Formal Remix and High Shine. The show opened with a runway full of lavish attire. A great use of gold was found in this season’s creations especially in the work of such designers as Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta and BiYan whose garments with brocade patterns and ornate embellishments. Dark colors in ink-black, bottle-green and scarlet-red dominated the opening section and were adorned with rich accessories and lace for a dose of gothic glamour. High contrast materials in dark colors and gold-gilded finishes joined forces for a whole new breed of baroque. Not restricted to womenswear, sharp-fitting suits and jeweled shirts were seen from Viktor & Rolf, Dolce & Gabbana and John Galliano for the menswear.

Guests mingled before the show and enjoyed delicious drinks courtesy of Grey Goose, who served their signature drink “Le Fizz” as well as sweet treats from Hey Sugar Bakery. Each and every one of the 700 guests also walked away with a python snakeskin money-clip from Cashhimi and a gift voucher to shop the new collections at Saks Fifth Avenue.

True romance came in the shape of darling Oscar de la Renta gowns and classic-cut Carolina Herrera dresses in palettes of pinks, ochres and creams. Black velvet from Andrew Gn and baroque finishes from Jason Wu, with deep-neck Victoriana-inspired necklines from Zac Posen. Tuxedos were sharp and sophisticated and showcased a range of materials and textures from fine wool to decadent brocade made by designers such as Christian Dior and Dolce & Gabbana and accessorized with bow-ties and thin knot ties. Scarlet fever overcame the runway with the show culminating in show-stopping gowns from Jason Wu, Marchesa and Oscar de la Renta.
