Hometown Heroes: Florida’s Own Olympic Gold Medalists

Of the 529 Americans competing in the 2012 London Olympics, Floridians have been behind several stand-out performances. Case in point: tennis greats and brothers Bob and Mike Bryan who won Olympic Gold Medals at Wimbledon.

“Winning the gold medal is the greatest thing we’ve ever achieved in our sport and I can’t wait to bring it back home to South Florida,” Bob Bryan said. “My beautiful wife [Michelle], baby and family have been supporting us from Sunny Isles Beach and it will be incredibly special to finally share this victory with them in person.”

Fellow 2012 Gold Medalists from our neck of the woods include Ryan Lochte and Serena Williams, while other competing Floridians include Sylvia Fowles, Jared Frayer, Justin Gatlin, Lacy Johnson, Tony McQuay, Trevor Moore, Anna Tunnicliffe, Brittany Viola, LeBron James, John Isner, Tony McQuay, Brian Fatih, Sarah Lihan, Mark Mendelblatt, Paige Railey, Zach Railey, Foluke Akinradewo, Laura Bennett, Chris Colwill, Phil Dalhausser, Jared Frayer, Ryan Harrison, Manuel Huerta, Hunter Kemper, Tina Konyot, Danell Leyva, Emil Milev, Karen O’Connor and Robin Prendes.
