Haute Late-Night Fare from Duck & Waffle

Foodies and socialites alike are abuzz about the latest addition to London’s culinary scene. Perhaps it’s the breathtaking views from the 40th floor of Heron Tower, or perhaps it’s that new restaurant Duck & Waffle has set itself apart by declaring that it will stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The stunning interior showcases the open kitchen, with banquette leather seating, large wooden communal tables and floor-to-ceiling windows designed by New York-based architects CetraRuddy. The wavy, yellow ceiling is a nod to the eponymous waffle, while white marble tables, rustic metals, weathered wood and antique ceramic tiles add the glam factor – just add glitterati and stir.

Head chef Daniel Doherty, 28, was most recently at The Old Brewery at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, but also had stints at The Ambassador in Exmouth Market and at Roux Fine Dining. While Doherty’s menu consists of seasonal British cuisine, it’s his eclectic take on traditional ingredients which is creating so many fans. Think Dorset scallop with apple, black truffle and lime, or the Duck & Waffle with fried duck egg and mustard maple syrup. If those descriptions haven’t yet whet your appetite, the restaurant’s signature dessert certainly will; a warm chocolate brownie with peanut butter ice cream and crunchy caramel. Late-night fare will never be the same again (thank goodness).

Samba Brands Management, the restaurant’s parent company, also owns the new SushiSamba in Heron Tower, as well as restaurants in NYC, Miami, Chicago and Las Vegas.
