Fans of the hit AMC show “Breaking Bad” are flocking to “The Breaking Bad Art Project” art show in Los Angeles. Taking place at Gallery 1988, the exhibition features posters and paintings reflecting characters and motifs from the show, including yellow jumpsuits, gas masks, blue methamphetamine and barrels of chemicals.
“Breaking Bad” stars such as Bryan Cranston (who plays Walter White), Bob Odenkirk (who plays Saul Goodman), Betsy Brandt (who plays Marie Schrader) and RJ Mitte (who plays Walter Jr.) attended a private showing of the exhibition on Saturday. According to Gallery 1988 co-founder Jensen Karp, each star bought a piece from the show to take home with them.
Karp has been working with “Breaking Bad” creator and writer Vince Gilligan for the past year to prepare to curate the show. Along with AMC, the duo created Breaking Gifs.com, which featured 15 posters by 15 artists, each depicting scenes and elements from the show. Approximately 300 copies of each poster have been printed, with 200 of them being available online. According to Karp, all 15 posters have sold out in an average of 6 minutes.
Karp noted that collectors have been purchasing the posters for between $50-$60 and then putting them on Ebay for higher prices. “It’s become like baseball cards,” said Karp. “It’s supposed to be about fan appreciation and hanging it on your wall, not people trying to make money.”
As of Tuesday, there are approximately six original paintings and seven prints left. The “Breaking Bad Art Project” will be open through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m..
