May was a pricey month. Here are some of the most outrageous purchases this past month:
“The Scream”, a globally recognized painting by Edvard Munch’s, sold for $119 million at auction. The purchase made this iconic pastel painting the most expensive artwork ever sold in an auction. The previous record-holder was Picassos’ “Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust,” sold for $106 million in 2010. You heard it here first.
It broke Vancouver’s Dougie Dog record as the most expensive hot dog sold. Little Rock’s “Hot Dog Mike” Juilano sold four TheOnedogs for $1,501 a pop and the best part of it all was that he donated all proceeds but $4 to charity. You heard it here first.

An autographed teacup and saucer used once by the diva herself, Lady Gaga, was sold for $75,300 at auction. More than 1,300 people bid on the item, which also had Gaga’s lipstick stain on it and the message “We pray for Japan” written in Japanese. The first Batman comic book to hit the stands was published in 1940 and sold for $850,000 at auction in May. There were 500,000 of them at one time, but it is believed that only a handful still exist today. The Batman comic book was ranked the sixth most valuable comic book.
In May, a rare 1923 Leica camera sold for $2.8 million in Vienna and became the most expensive camera ever sold. Almost 90 years later, this German camera still functions.
