For those living in or visiting London this summer for the 2012 Summer Olympics, there is no question that there will be plenty to do and see around the city. New reports indicate that there are plans being considered for a Formula One race in and around the Olympic Stadium.

The bid to hold the Formula One Race is now one of four bids accepted for consideration by the London Legacy Development Corporation and Formula One chief executive Bernie Ecclestone confirmed that he had been approached and had expressed interest in staging the race if the bid was successful.

“This is a firm that happened to be bidding for use of the stadium, not to own it. They came up with a scheme whereby Formula One would race around the stadium, inside it, outside it. They wanted to make sure I would be interested,” Ecclestone said.

According to reports, the plan is to run the cars on a track that would run into the stadium and then around the Olympic Park, which was originally designed for pedestrians. If the bid moves forward, there would need to be major engineering and environmental challenges resolved.

Ecclestone has previously expressed his eagerness to create a London Grand Prix, but logistical and financial hurdles have made it impossible thus far.
