According to Architectural Record’s latest table of US-based architecture firms ranked in order of their 2011 revenue from architecture services, the Los Angeles architecture industry is fairing well, despite the tough market.

The Architectural Billings Index is an index of architects’ billing and is used as a barometer of U.S. construction activity. The billings index also measures demand for architects’ services, helping to predict construction activity nine to 12 months ahead. In May, the index fell to its lowest level in more than two years.

Despite the overall dip, AECOM, Los Angeles’ leading architecture company and the designers of Downtown Los Angeles’ new LAPD headquarters, reportedly made $179.2 million overseas and $226.2 million domestically. Other Southern Californian companies represented in the top 50 included Jacobs in Pasadena, Stantex Inc. in Irvine, HMC Architects in LA, LPA Inc. in Irvine and WATG/Wimberly Interiors in Irvine.
