LACMA Unveils Newest Attraction: “Levitated Mass”

With much fanfare, LACMA finally unveiled its newest attraction: the huge boulder that is called “Levitated Mass.”

Crowds flocked to see the new installation by Michael Heizer over the weekend.

Levitated Mass is a 340-ton granite megalith atop a 456-foot long slot that has been constructed on LACMA’s campus.

Just like his other artwork, such as 1969’s Double Negative, the negative form is the key to experiencing his work.

The artist himself was on hand this weekend, though he did not speak or explain his piece.
