I’ll Have Another Drops Out of Belmont Stakes, Triple Crown Contention

I’ll Have Another, the horse who won this year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness, will not race for the Triple Crown at tomorrow’s Belmont Stakes after pulling out due to a swollen left front tendon, trainer Doug O’Neill announced earlier today.

There has not been a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978. I’ll Have Another is the fifth horse that in the last 10 years has won the Derby and Preakness but failed to secure the title at Belmont. Owner Paul Reddam just said in a press conference that the horse will be retired from racing.
