Some of the design world’s brightest stars have contributed sketches and prints to this year’s “I Love Architecture” auction, a fundraiser for San Francisco-based Architecture for Humanity.
Frank Gehry, Renzo Piano, Jeanne Gang and Kengo Kuma are among more than 70 architects and designers who donated drawings, renderings, paintings and other original pieces to the event. Buyers have until this Friday, June 29, to bid on the artwork, which ranges from napkin sketches and pencil-on-canvas drawings to architectural images, watercolors and digital prints.
“One hundred percent of the proceeds raised from this auction will support Architecture for Humanity’s mission, which is to provide design and construction services to those most in need,” explains Christina Weber, the organization’s development director.
Architecture for Humanity oversees various community development projects in some 20 countries. The nonprofit organization partners with 40,000 professionals globally to address housing and humanitarian needs, and also sponsors fellowships, competitions and workshops that inspire innovative approaches to poverty relief and social change. Current efforts include post-earthquake rebuilding projects in Haiti and Japan, community center construction in Brazil and athletic field development for youth in India, Ghana and Rwanda.
Weber says her organization is proud to partner with accomplished professionals who commit to helping others in creative new ways.
“Architecture for Humanity is grateful for the long-standing support of many of the esteemed architects and designers who have contributed sketches to this year’s auction,” she says. “Their support demonstrates a strong commitment to fostering the next generation of humanitarian design and architecture enthusiasts.”
