7th Festival of World Symphony Orchestras in Moscow

Dedicated to Russia Day as a well-established tradition, the 7th Festival of World Symphony Orchestras in Moscow is welcoming its first foreign participant, the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.
This is the first time the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba has come to Russia in its current form, though the symphony did perform once before in the county back in 1986. Juan Valdes Figueroa, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba said, “Our orchestra is very closely linked with Russia. Eight members of our group studied in Russian conservatories and 13 were prepared by Russian professors in Cuba. Among the composers on the repertoire are Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov and Glinka. Such conductors of Russian origin as Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Kusevitsky, Nikolai Slonimsky and Veronika Dudarova have performed with our orchestra over the past years. There is also one more whom we love very much – Vladimir Ziva who is not only a conductor but also a teacher. He visited Cuba last year.”
During the first part of the concert, the musicians played the works of Cuban composers while the second part consisted of world music classics.
Symphony orchestras from North America and South America are also taking part in this year’s festival.
