OMA To Design New Home For The Garage Center for Contemporary Culture

The Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow will be adding a new building in Gorky Park designed by OMA of Rotterdam, NL.

The building will be a renovation of the famous 1960s Vremena Goda restaurant, boasting 5,400 square meters of space, exhibition galleries on two levels, a creative center for children, shops, cafe, auditorium, and offices.

The design pays homage to Soviet-era elements, including a mosaic and decorative tiles, but also marks a new era of expansion for the Garage Center.

Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, founded by Dasha Zhukova in 2008, is a major non-profit arts project based in Moscow, dedicated to exploring and developing contemporary culture. The building is slated to be complete in 2013.
