You get much more than a painting from Greg Miller’s works, each piece is a nostalgic ode to a bygone era where pinup girls sold 5-cent Babe Ruth’s on grand advertisements and pulp fiction comics were all the rage. Miller’s paintings are controlled chaos on a canvas; an eclectic collage of black and white photographs, old ads and slices of text.
Influenced by old Beatniks such as George Herms and Wallace Berman, Miller grew up in California during the 60’s, a rich time in art with the rise of Pop Art and Abstractionism.
His California roots highlight his exhibit, “Down By The River,” at Caldwell Snyder. One such California tribute is his grainy black and white piece of the Golden Gate Bridge, inspired by an old photo he found in a trunk his father owned.
