Over the past four decades, Annie Leibovitz has made her mark in the photography world with some of the greatest photographs of rock stars, politicians and celebrities, but while being honored by the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, Leibovitz felt it was only right to show off a photograph of Niagara Falls, to highlight a family trip she had taken, which will also be featured in “Pilgrimage,” her new book.

On Tuesday, in Beverly Hills at a private luncheon at the Regent Beverly Wilshire hotel, the famous photographer received the 7th MOCA Award to Distinguished Women in the Arts.

Here’s what Leibovitz had to say about her achievement, “This award has been given to a great group of women, very distinguished company.” She with excitement, “And here I am in California. This is where I learned to be a photographer.”

Leibovitz said the MOCA honor “means a lot to me.”
