American Cancer Society Hosts First-Ever “A Grand Affair” Gala

Angelenos donned their best California-cocktail attire and raised their glasses to cancer research as they celebrated the inaugural “A Grand Affair” gala and silent auction on May 12 at The Redbury Hotel to benefit The American Cancer Society.

Together with The Young Professionals of Los Angeles organization, the society raised $28,000 at the first-ever fundraiser to benefit its mission of eliminating cancer through research, education, advocacy and free patient services.

Amidst a lit-up garden courtyard and a vintage inspired library bar, The Redbury Hotel, SBE’s popular English Boho-style property, played host as guests savored Mediterranean bites prepared by award-winning chef Danny Elmaleh. They also toasted with wines from McCrum Wines and Estelle Vineyards, Firestone Walker Brewing Company beer, and signature cocktails, as they mixed, mingled and danced the night away to tunes by Almost Famous.

Keynote speaker Dr. Kristi Funk, founder of the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Beverly Hills, spoke about the significance of cancer research and the impact the crowd can make on the initiative by donating to The American Cancer Society. Funk, whose patients include Sheryl Crow, has helped thousands of women through treatment.
