Plans to build a $1 billion luxury hotel in downtown Los Angeles are underway and developer Korean Air hopes to incorporate some sky-high components to make the new property stand out from the rest, including a lobby on the 70th floor.
Construction should begin soon on the new hotel, which once complete, will be the second-tallest structure in Southern California. Standing at 70 stories, the new hotel will only be shorter than the US Bank Tower office building. The property is also expected to feature high-speed elevator, a restaurant, bar and infinity pool.
The hotel will be built on Wilshire Boulevard and Figueroa Street, however Korean Air and Los Angeles architect A.C. Martin Partners Inc. have not yet finalized the shape for the building or a management company to run the four-star hotel.
On the bottom floors there will be shops and restaurants, followed by an additional 20 stories of offices for rent. All of the floors above the office space will be the hotel, with 900 hotel rooms.

Demolition is expected to start this summer and the new hotel will open in 2017.
