Saudi Millionaire Drops $136,000 On Rare Bottle Of Louis Roederer Cristal

A Saudi millionaire splurged $136,000 on a vintage bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal over the weekend at glitzy Cavalli club in Dubai.

The rare bubbly was one of just three believed to be available in the world. The other two were for sale in night clubs in New York and London.

The United Arab Emirates newspaper 7DAYS reported that “the Saudi Arabian and his friends guzzled” the radically expensive booze early Saturday morning (which is still Friday night to avid partygoers). The club’s manager, David Lescarret, described the man as a “well educated gentleman…who spoke several languages and ordered the bottle in French.”

The Cristal bottle was from a batch made in 1990 in Champagne, France originally intended for the Millennium New Years celebrations. Lescarret said the Cavalli club bought the bottle at Christie’s auction house in London for about $93,000. He would not disclose the bill today for the night, merely saying that it was “very high” and included a “luxurious dinner.”

Saudi nationals often travel to Dubai for entertainment since alcohol is forbidden in the conservative kingdom of Saudi Arabia and unrelated men and women are banned from socializing in public.
