The jewelry collection of a late Montana copper mining heiress, Huguette Clark, which encompassed signed pieces of Tiffany & Co. and Cartier jewelry brought in almost $21 million at a New York City auction. Clark was 104 when she died and the daughter of U.S. Senator and mining mogul William A. Clark.
Christie’s said yesterday’s sale from the estate of Clark was a must-attend for collectors the world over. The star of the auction was a rare pink cushion-cut 9-carat diamond ring, which ultimately sold for almost $16 million. This far exceeded the auction house’s estimate that the 17 pieces would raise $9 million to $12 million.
